José Bahamonde-González, an lawyer, authorized administrator and associate dean of the College of Maryland Francis K. Carey Faculty of Legislation, died of an acute infection May perhaps 15 at his North Baltimore house. He was 62.

Born in Santiago, Cuba, he was the son of José “Pepe” Bahamonde, a qualified general public accountant and Sonia González, a hairdresser and salon owner. He went into legislation college administration. He served as assistant director for Career Products and services and Coordinator for Minority Affairs at the Georgetown College Legislation Center and he later on was assistant dean for the Occupation Preparing Center at the College of Miami University of Legislation.
He then moved to Baltimore and labored for 22 yrs at the College of Maryland Francis King Carey College of Law, serving in administrative positions. “We began functioning in 1997, and our marriage soon went from remaining colleagues to a friendship,” said Andreas Ortmeyer, a regulation faculty colleague. “You knew when José was in the building. He introduced this energy with him. He introduced that similar vibrancy to any personalized event — a birthday or a newborn’s arrival. He thrived off other’s peoples’ strength. People today just wished to communicate to him.”
“I was in my past yr of law college when we connected. He took me underneath his wing,” reported lawyer Kraig Very long. “He was energetic, thoughtful and imaginative. He was a force for variety at the university and he put these beliefs into motion.”
“He and his associate would host a Valentine’s Working day celebration for LGBQ students and their close friends,” said Adam Farra, a 2011 Maryland Regulation College graduate who techniques in Washington, D.C. “It was important for making them feel a aspect of the Baltimore group and the law university neighborhood. José’s driving drive was inclusivity and encouraging individuals who arrived from communities that experienced been underrepresented in the lawful occupation. He served them community and played a job as counsellor to all those learners.”
In 2019 Mr. Bahamonde-González, though remaining at the regulation college, also turned the downtown Baltimore law organization of Miles & Stockbridge’s Chief Variety, Equity, Inclusion & Skilled Growth Officer.
He went on to serve as Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton’s Senior Variety, Fairness & Inclusion Manager in 2021.

He worked with pupils, attorneys, professors, directors and other folks to boost chances, open up doors, and develop pipelines to increase range in the authorized profession.

He is survived by his husband of 13 several years, Gerald Alan Popko two sons, Jason Popko and Benjamin Popko, both of those of Atlanta his sister, Ana Marta Bahamonde-Manzano of Houston two nephews, Roberto José Manzano of Houston and Luis Antonio Manzano of San Juan and three grandchildren.
