Small towns can be ideal for starting up and developing a company and Altoona has what it will take, explained Colby Williams, an avid entrepreneur and author of “Small Town Large Cash: Entrepreneurship and Chance in Today’s Compact City.”

Williams, the keynote speaker Friday at the Altoona Blair County Advancement Corp. once-a-year assembly, talked about starting off a coffee shop — Parengo Espresso — in 2013 in the smaller town of Sikeston, Missouri, and how he went by way of what he identified as the 3 phases of financial enhancement.

He made a decision to open the coffee shop to commit in the neighborhood, calling the first section “isolated entrepreneur.”

“I crafted my coffee store, worked 16 to 20 hrs a day for a few several years. When in that phase, you are occupied, you see a hole in the marketplace and check out to fill it. For me, I observed a town located around two interstates, the city did not have a coffee store inside 150 miles. I assumed I could make a spot and turn into a heart of the local community,” Williams claimed.

He decided the store was not sustainable as an isolated entrepreneur.

“In get for me to have a prosperous small business and reside with myself, I wanted to move to the up coming stage (cooperative local community). This is when you realize you do not need to be isolated. What if we all band jointly and pool resources, we could get all people in the community included. I tried to make my community neat,” Williams claimed.

He mentioned the Altoona space is very similar to Sikeston.

“Altoona is very great. What was remarkable was I felt I was not isolated. I was playing on a crew, I noticed revenues raise and acquired persons to operate together. We set out an hard work to do cooperative advertising and marketing. Bit by bit, I noticed people alter. This was real interesting. I felt I was participating in on section of a workforce. This was fantastic for me and the group, we supported each and every other’s businesses,” Williams claimed.

He termed the 3rd section “synchronized stakeholders.”

“We require just about every other, we are a local community-oriented species. When synchronized stakeholders get involved, some amazing factors materialize, that is what is heading on right here (Altoona). You commence to recognize men and women want to are living in destinations that have a certain excellent of lifestyle,” Williams said. “Embracing the entrepreneur in the region has led to some wonderful things.”
